HEAD MEMBER SERVICE REPRESENTATIVE

JOB SUMMARY:
Under general supervision provides a variety of service functions directly to the members to include deposits, transfers, withdrawals, loan payments, certified drafts and travelers checks. Assists members in setting up new accounts and in making changes to existing accounts. Operates computer terminal to obtain information regarding member's accounts. Responsible for balancing each day's transactions and verifying cash totals for the office and the ATM machine. Processes third party wires. Responsible for filing of records. Maintains working knowledge of all credit union functions in order to serve as backup to a number of service positions.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
1. Accurate and timely balancing of cash and daily transactions for the office and the ATM machine.
2. Professional, efficient and courteous service to members in person or by phone.
3. Professional and efficient maintenance of return mail, postage account, remote funds reports, negative balance accounts and quarterly cash audits.
4. Accurate and timely processing of items sent for collection.
5. Accurate and timely filing and rotation of records.
6. Receive members, in person or by phone, determine nature of business, handle request(s), or refer to appropriate department.
7. Receive deposits and transfers in person, by mail or by phone; post to accounts and prepare proper receipts.
8. Receive and process loan payments in person or by mail; post to proper accounts.
9. Prepare and disburse Visa payments and Visa cash advances.
10. Prepare and disburse traveler's checks, certified checks and money orders.
11. Process and disburse cash or check withdrawals in person, by phone or by mail.
12. Prepare quarterly cash audits.
13. Provide account information to members through the on-line computer terminal.
14. Research and resolve member account problems; handle processing of negative balance accounts.
15. Investigate and process deposited checks that have been returned unpaid.
16. Investigate and process items sent for collection.
17. Investigate and prepare application of writs, garnishments and back-up withholding.
18. Process payroll deduction starts, stops and changes.
19. Prepare new accounts; process changes to existing accounts.
20. Balance to the terminal teller closing report and account for assigned cash and transactions on a daily basis.
21. Initiate and receive 3rd party member wires through Mid-Atlantic.
22. Handle sorting and investigation of returned mail.
23. Maintain office operations records by rotating on a monthly basis and filing regularly.
24. Perform daily settlement of ATM machine and process customer deposits. Balance and resolve any problems with remote fund transfers and reports.
25. Perform daily settlement of the office; summarize daily activity.
26. Process daily deposits to the Federal Reserve; investigate and process cash letter adjustments.
27. Sign for certified drafts and certificates of deposit.
28. Maintain office postage reply permit account with the Post Office.
29. Order teller supplies.
30. Serve as notary public for the credit union.
31. Serve as backup for the following functions: typing certificates of deposit; ordering and receiving cash shipment from the bank to the office vault; processing closed accounts; handling stop payment reports; settling traveler's checks and money orders daily; IRA's; settling MAC daily and maintaining reports; and ordering checks.
32. Maintain member confidentiality.
33. Performs in a professional manner setting the highest possible standard for the Credit Union.
NON-ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
1. Attend meetings and training sessions as required.
2. Perform other duties and responsibilities as required or assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:
High School diploma or equivalent. Two to three years experience in teller service in a credit union or other financial institution. Working knowledge of computer software.
QUALIFICATIONS DESIRED:
Previous supervisory experience.

- Ability to read and write.
- Ability to count and work with numbers and details effectively.
- Ability to work effectively with people at all levels, orally, in writing, or by phone.
- Ability to effectively and efficiently communicate orally, in writing, and by phone.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:
Job requires little physical effort and is basically a desk assignment. Work creates moderate to heavy stress during certain periods. Job does not have specific volume and pace of work standards except that the job includes specific deadlines. Job requires extensive contact with managers, employees, and members on a continual basis. This work requires the following physical activities: sitting, standing, walking, finger dexterity, grasping, repetitive motions, talking, hearing and visual acuity. The work is performed primarily indoors.
