MEMBER SERVICE REPRESENTATIVE


FLSA STATUS: NONEXEMPT

JOB SUMMARY:

Under general supervision, provides a variety of service functions directly to the members to include processing deposits, transfers, withdrawals, loan payments, certified drafts, money orders and travelers checks. Assists members in setting up new accounts and in making changes to existing accounts. Operates computer terminal to obtain information regarding member's accounts. Responsible for balancing each day's transactions and verifying cash totals. Follows security procedures to ensure the Credit Union’s assets are protected. Proactively markets the Credit Union’s products and service in order to improve the financial well being of our members. Additional duties include verifying cash deliveries from the bank and maintaining vault cash/change fund.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
1. Accurate and timely balancing of cash and daily transactions.
2. Professional, efficient and courteous service to members in person or by phone.
3. Accurate and timely verification of cash deliveries from the bank.
4. Accurate and efficient maintenance of vault cash/change fund and vault records.
5. Must have thorough knowledge of the credit union’s products and services in order to cross-sell when actively looking for member’s needs.
6. Receive members, in person or by phone, determine nature of business, handle request(s), or refer to appropriate department.
7. Provide information, in person or by phone, concerning credit union services or policy including information through computer terminal.
8. Receive deposits and transfers in person, by mail or by phone; post to accounts and prepare proper receipts.
9. Receive and process loan payments in person or by mail; post to proper accounts.
10. Prepare and disburse traveler's checks, money orders and certified checks.
11. Process and disburse cash or check withdrawals in person, by phone or by mail.
12. Process Visa payments and Visa cash advances by mail or phone.
13. Maintain inventory, report sales and remit daily funds on traveler's checks.
14. Initiate and receive 3rd party wires through Mid-Atlantic.
15. Open and close computer terminal on a daily basis.
16. Process payroll deduction starts, stops and changes.
17. Prepare new accounts; process changes to existing accounts including name and address changes.
18. Receive, process and print office expense checks.
19. Maintain savings and checking account signature card files.
20. Complete incoming verifications for members; copy and file.
21. Film daily checks accepted; research data stored on micro film as requested.
22. Balance to the terminal teller closing report and account for assigned cash and transactions on a daily basis.
23. Maintain vault cash/change fund and assist with the monthly vault cash audit.
24. Receive money from the bank and maintain records; receive and ship volumes of coin.
25. Handle Certificates of Deposit and maintain files.
26. Maintain closed accounts and stop-payments.
27. Perform daily settlement, process customer deposits and refill cash as needed for ATM machine. Keep customer area of ATM cleaned.
28. Serve as backup to the Head Teller by balancing the daily transactions of the office and the ATM machine.
29. Maintain member confidentiality.
30. Performs in a professional manner setting the highest possible standard for the Credit Union.

NON-ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
1. Attend meetings and training sessions as required.
2. Perform other duties and responsibilities as required or assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:
High School diploma or equivalent. One to two years experience in customer service or teller service in a business or financial institution. Working knowledge of computer software programs.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
- Ability to read and write.
- Ability to count and work with numbers and details effectively.
- Ability to effectively and efficiently communicate orally, in writing, and by phone.
- Ability to effectively work with co-workers and members (friendliness, tact and diplomacy).
- Ability to learn, apply and communicate knowledge of teller department policies and procedures.
- Ability to learn, apply and communicate knowledge of credit union products and services.
- Ability to discern currency and coin.
- Ability to accurately input and retrieve data from computer.
- Ability to use a calculator.
- Ability to use and learn office machines (i.e., copier, fax, terminals).
- Ability to multi-task and prioritize work flow.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:
Job requires little physical effort and is basically a desk assignment. Work creates moderate to heavy stress during certain periods. Job does not have specific volume and pace of work standards except that the job includes specific deadlines. Job requires extensive contact with managers, employees, members, outside companies and vendors on a continual basis. This work requires the following physical activities: sitting, standing, walking, finger dexterity, grasping, repetitive motions, talking, hearing and visual acuity. The work is performed primarily indoors.
