Toni's Take - Ouch... That hurts!

It’s the holiday season! Everywhere we turn, we are reminded of this wonderful time to give to our family and friends and just enjoy each other. However, in the midst of the tinsel covered trees, Bing Crosby’s White Christmas, and the beautiful twinkling lights, there are subtle reminders that this time of year provides stress and struggle for some. The red kettles that sit outside department stores with their loyal attendants, the “Toys for Tots” boxes that sit at local businesses and the pleas from food bank volunteers, remind us of those who rely on the love and kindness of strangers to help provide a Merry Christmas for their family. For those fortunate enough to have the means to provide for our families, are we giving until it hurts?

I am so proud to work for an organization where, even in a down economy, we truly do give until it hurts. By joining together, AmeriChoice employees provided Christmas gifts for 20 needy children in our community. One of my co-workers said to me, “You know what Toni? My wife and I discussed it and decided that we can cut back on our grocery budget this week. If it means that one more child has a special Christmas, than it was more then worth it to us!” That, my friends, is giving until it hurts!
